Little Girl

by Philip Philmar

Little girl

blonde and pretty,

polka dot swimsuit with a frill,

skipping on the beach,

giggles in the sun’s dazzle,

eyes shining and

click of the shutter

freezes the moment monochromatically,

casting her into the shadow

of the woman she’ll become,

who puts the snapshot

back into the carrier bag with

all the other creased paper

pieces of herself.
